First Page In Progress

  1. Eleni – The intersecting triangles that contain the photo makes a very interesting element – something we’ll look at for quite some time (and that is a good thing). Some thoughts:

    1. Your masthead is comprised (or should be) of 2 elements – the typography and the icon of the 2 hands. Yet – they are far far away from each other. Think about how they can come together to create a really strong masthead that does not, for the moment, include the photo. Think about the masthead having the top 1/3 of the page to itself. What would you do, how could they be combined? The typography is a bit awkward with the negative space between REACH and FOR coalescing with the negative space between the letters of HOPE. I suspect that when you start to think about how your heading type and the icon will “fit together” this arrangement will change – for the better.

    2. After you have worked on the masthead design, you can certainly think about how the photo treatment will work with the smaller sections below the masthead. That is what I recommend – the photo should sit with the body text. AND, the deconstruction that I see here maybe should move to the next 2 pages (inside spread) where you will have more room to use it large with text wrapping around it. On the cover, maybe you should allow the masthead to be an unchallenged focal point – being more conservative in your approach to the photo.

    3. The first paragraph is the Mission Statement… and as such, could be placed in a tinted box, or highlighted in another way. It isn’t strictly an article, but instead will probably appear in same place every issue.

That’s it for now – I look forward to seeing what’s next.

  2. Great jog Eleni, your design is beautiful, my favorite party in your design is the effect between the triangles and the photo in the background. I also liked your typefaces choices, they are easy to ready and taking in account you targeted audience a retired male CEO, you made a good choice. You can also try to use your design without the two triangle that are positioned under your block of text to see how it goes to look like.
