Richard_IPadLayout
So taking in the notes I wrote down for my first exercise, I tried something different. Instead of using the picture for the background, I did a box over the page in a dark blue (I used this on my other layout) to keep the same theme going on through out the pages. Then I added a lighter blue gradient to the bottom of the page to add some contrast. Feeling the gradient background was too plain, I added a texture to it, keeping it pretty opaque so the texture wouldn't be too over powering. I choose a repeating mountain pattern to keep with the theme of mountains. I loved the font I used for the first layout, but instead of using Futura and white text like my first layout, i opted for black text so the body text could still be readable against the text boxes. I didn't like the bare edges of the image, so I gave it rounded edges and a stroke to make it interesting. The body text was switched to Palatino, since i figured a serif text might be easier to read if I make it black.

My first thought for this layout was that there wasn't much text to work with compared to the last project. I chose to keep the background a simple plain color that matched the picture. I tried to find a heading typeface that would match the culture and the project itself. When I finished with the main heading and paragraph part of this layout, I made it so that the Women's Education list almost looked separate so it didn't get confused with the beginning paragraph.

For this design, I tried not to put too much emphasis on the photo, so I only included a portion of it in the corner. Since the article speaks of "women's" education, I figured it would be appropriate to make the woman the focal point of the photo. I grabbed the colors from the woman's clothing for the background color and the title color. They also happened to be complementary colors. I created the diagonal design because I thought it looked like a mountain, and upon research I noticed that their logo has a mountain so I figured it went with their theme. I also tried using the same type face that they use in their original logo as well. Both the text boxes are the same size and aligned on the columns from the grid, but on different columns. Overall I tried to give an appealing look to a page even if it is about education, but also trying to stick with their theme.
