Pirperis_Front Page Design

After our class critique, I tried making the logo larger and having the title blend in with the logo as well to have more of a connection. I then made the mission smaller than the rest since it should not stand out too much. I decreased the point size of the body text from 12 to 10 pt. I put a text wrap around the body text so it could "hug" the photo rather than overlap and therefore, gave me the ability to have the photo full bleed rather than lowered opacity.

  1. Eleni – all good changes, this is looking quite nice. I see that you have pulled together the subheading “Places” and the lower subheading “Remote, Underserved Mountain Communities.” You can do this – but I’m not sure a hyphen is the best way to put them together. What other options do you have? A colon between them would be more proper. And what about PLACES in all caps, and/or a color break between them?

Body text… what is your leading? This looks quite tight, and you aren’t showing us where the paragraphs begin. Remember, I’ll let you cut text when needed – so if adding leading means that you need to cut – that’s ok. But, you might want to look at the large amount of negative space under your great masthead… either pull up the Mission Statement (which gives you more room for the lower text) or consider if there might be another way to use this large amount of space.

  2. Hi Eleni! I like how overall your layout is eye-catching. It's also full of content, which is good. I think it would work better if your paragraph breaks were clearer, though. I also am not a fan of the orientation of that photo in the bottom right; it being tilted slightly is unnerving (and feels like an action movie poster more than a newsletter for education girls). That, and the white in the bottom left throws the shape off. I think that your masthead in both form and size is excellent, though!

  4. Eleni! Loving the design, it look fantastic. The masthead feel a little muted, maybe you can add in a color, how about the purple. As for "place" and "people, instead of the hyphen, a method you can try is making the text the same black you use for the hand in your masthead and capitalizing all the character.

  5. HI, Eleni! Nice work, I like your design a lot, my only concern is about the photo in purple, why not use it in the same color of the logo, I think that it will look nice.
