Dinh - Design Brief









As I scan through the CAI Facebook page for potential photo to use in the newsletter, a thought came into my head. All these kids have the potential to make a different in their region for the better. All they need is a key to unlock that potential, and the CAI is that key. That is the story behind the name "unlocking potential".

  1. Tru – it is a GREAT name, and well suited to your audience. This audience is made up of people who are “project and process oriented”. They want see what the organization has DONE – in a pretty concrete way. So.. the idea of an action (like unlocking) is perfect.

    Photos – the more photos of the schools )=(being built and finished) the better for your audience.

    Colors – make sure they support the photos. And… I’m wondering if you need both dark colors in the current palette? Do you really need the black? You can, of course, use black for your text… even if it isn’t included in the palette. Don’t forget to include the cmyk color names.

    Keep thinking – and please show us what a subheading would look like sitting directly above your body copy. I look forward to seeing your masthead design for “Unlocking Potential” the CAI Institute Newsletter.

  2. Tru, the name is quite clever and like Coni said it definitely fits the audience you've chosen to target. The font is fun and so are the colors, but I feel like if you could get those colors to relate and match the photos better, you would have a much better looking design. It would seem more connected. I also think the photos of the schools will help draw in your target audience simply for the fact that they would be interested in helping these kids and get them a better education in order to show their potential.

  3. I have to say that I'm kind of put off from your color choice. It's always really dark and cold, and like Coni mentioned, doesn't seem to fit with the bright and hopeful photos you've chosen. However, I have to say that photo choice is spot on for your target audience!

    I think that your newsletter could use some extra ornamentation. I think it's kind of barren from a design standpoint, and certainly unfit for the "Elegant" and "High Class" demographic, and I also can't tell if your masthead is "Unlocking Potential" or "Unlocking Potential Unlocking Potential Unlocking Potential". Plus, your layout looks disorganized, as if you just put things in places without checking how they lined up.
