Elvis – I seem to forget to look ahead sometimes, so now I see your cover thoughts and realize that you had no intention of using that busy corner element where I was suggesting… but instead in a reduced, angled manner. Well – I think this is great, and a good use of that element (but again, probably only here, on page 1). Some thoughts:
1. I suggest you reduce the masthead a bit – it is crashing into the angled blue edge
2. You have added new text, which is fine and seems to be a good introduction to the newsletter. But, it is only an introducation – so you’ll need to use some of the text you corrected in the proofer’s marks exercise too – and start it here on page 1.
3. The font appears too large – as if you are designing for the web. Print body copy is between the point sizes of 9 and 11. This will help reduce the space this intro takes up, allowing you to start another article on this page.
4. Special 20th Anniversary Edition – where else can this go? It currently sits in too much space… swimming in the blue. Why not place it below the masthead – or in the upper right corner? Much smaller than it is presently.
5. I think you’ll need to add a photo to this page. Don’t hesitate to overlap the angle with the top of a photo – it will add depth to the page. Also – please increase your margins a bit, to relax the edges of the design.
