I felt that I had the right idea/s conceptually, so rather than try and fix what ain't broke, I opted instead for fine-tuning each layout and making them better. I got rid of the difficult to read typefaces, improved padding and balance, and I also changed the color of the iPhone layout to something that felt more fitting. Also, in the iPhone layout, the quote is removed from body and in the footer.
Nat – these have all moved forward, good job. The 960 grid looks quite successful, completely readable and good typography. The iPad layout is very compelling with its warm colors. Do you think that by adding leading to the text blocks the type would fill out the page a bit more? I question whether you need the mountain photo in the background – I’m not sure we would recognize it as a snow covered mountain, but it does give a bit of texture to the background which is a good idea. What other texture could be used? Fabric? The iPhone has more challenges than the others. There is a fair amount of trapped white space in the lower right of the text frame. What can you do about this? The quote, at bottom, is probably too small for anyone to read it. And… instead our eyes are drawn to Greg Mortenson’s name in white, sitting rather randomly about a small icon. Let his name sit on the same last line of the quote, and just push him to right (shift/tab before his name will do that). Icon at bottom – not sure what this is… but its design is too complicated to be successful at this size. Type is unreadable – do you need it? I don’t think so… a better use of the space might be an enlarged quote.
